How to for Self contained Speaker and Amp

Last Halloween the prop on the porch could not be heard with the speakers I had set up, which ruins the effect so to fix this I decided to make a new speaker setup that could do 4 things, be loud enough to be heard, easy to set up and move, have an old look making it easy to hide, and completely self contained. This Is a simple how to on what I made.

Caution: high current is used here, if you decided to build do so at your own risk.

What you will need:
1. Speakers/Box ( I used 2x10's in a box_

2. Computer power supply. (the more amps the better, I used a 14 amp supply)

3. Power cable

4. Amp (mine is an old car amp, 300 watts, bought for 10 dollars)

5. RCA to audio jack

6. some screws and washers

7. switch (optional)

The amp requires around 12 volts and upwards of 20 amps for full power, I am using 14 amps but volume only turned up half way. so far I have not seen any problems.

To wire the car amp to the power supply, you need one ground wire, and two 12 volt like (yellow on computer power supply) connect the ground to the ground terminal, and then connect the 12 volts to the positive side and the REM terminal. this allows the amp to power up.

To connected the Amp to the speakers simply connected one side to the positive and one to the negative. Since this amp has an rca input I only used the left side for audio, if i need in the future I can use the right channel as a second amp.

Important: In order for the power supply to work you need to either short out the black (ground) wire with the Green wire. you can do this by simple twisting them together, or if you want installing a switch to turn it on and off. If you do not do this the power supply will not turn on and nothing will happen.

After you check all wiring you are ready to test the system. Connect it to power and connect an audio source and enjoy.

After everything was put together, I powered it up, connected an audio source and it worked perfectly. It was very loud.
